On the east branch of the Tarwin River, at approx 145 Meeniyan-Nerrena Rd, Meeniyan.
All welcome but please RSVP to Phil on 0428 642 371 to help with logistics.
Join a river walk hosted by Nerrena Tarwin Valley Landcare to see the revegetation that has occurred along a section of the East Tarwin branch of the Tarwin River. The one hour or so walk will be guided by Matt Bowler from West Gippsland CMA. Afterwards, join us for a BBQ sausage and if it’s a nice day bring your togs for a river swim if you’d like.
Phil Poulton moved to this 20 Ha property in 2013. The following year WGCMA approached him with a proposal to restore the riverbank. At the time it was unfenced and thick with willow trees. In 2015, they poisoned and removed the willows, fenced the bank and planted some 2000 natives.
Come and see the progress of this “good news” story.
Location: drive into the paddock through a road gate at approx 145 Meeniyan-Nerrena Rd, Meeniyan. This is more or less opposite “Ballanard”, a dairy farm at 140 Meeniyan-Nerrena rd. Join us at the river after driving/walking through the paddock. Look out for the sign.
What to bring: sturdy shoes and suitable clothing. Also a chair if staying for a snag. Most of the walking will be done in the paddock along the fence-line with the riverbank, which is flat and not overgrown. You may also wish to walk within the reveg zone, but this is obviously overgrown.
NOTE: This is a Nerrena Tarwin Valley Landcare event (not SGLN). Please RSVP to Phil on 0428 642 371 .
