A field day to discuss the costs and benefits of three different dam-management strategies
Join us at Jillian Staton & Bruce Whittaker’s beef farm at Tarwin Lower. We will:
- Look at three different dam-management systems (open, restricted access and complete stock exclusion)
- Examine the economic costs and benefits of each strategy
- Discuss the implications of each strategy on stock health, welfare and safety
- Consider the environmental impacts of each strategy.
Presenters include:
- Jillian Staton: a landholder’s perspective
- Professor Bill Malcolm (University of Melbourne): the costs/benefits for farm systems by making changes involving farm dams
- Ty Matthews (Deakin University): the fish & invertebrates that can live in farm dams
- Dr Phil Poulton (local vet): the impacts of fencing off dams on stock health & safety
