A field day to discuss the costs and benefits of three different dam-management strategies

Join us at Jillian Staton & Bruce Whittaker’s beef farm at Tarwin Lower. We will:

  • Look at three different dam-management systems (open, restricted access and complete stock exclusion)
  • Examine the economic costs and benefits of each strategy
  • Discuss the implications of each strategy on stock health, welfare and safety
  • Consider the environmental impacts of each strategy.

Presenters include:

  • Jillian Staton: a landholder’s perspective
  • Professor Bill Malcolm (University of Melbourne): the costs/benefits for farm systems by making changes involving farm dams
  • Ty Matthews (Deakin University): the fish & invertebrates that can live in farm dams
  • Dr Phil Poulton (local vet): the impacts of fencing off dams on stock health & safety
